Bio

Victoria Bakewell is a double bassist, educator, and researcher specializing in the history and pedagogy of the double bass. She holds degrees from Concordia College, the University of Colorado Boulder, and the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, where she completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree under the mentorship of Dr. Brian Powell.

As a performer, Victoria has appeared with ensembles and festivals throughout the United States and abroad, including Festival Napa Valley, MahlerFest, the Frost Symphony Orchestra, and the Frost Wind Ensemble. Her research on the historical development of the double bass earned first place in the 2024 International Society of Bassists Research Competition (Student Division) and was later published in the Online Journal of Bass Research. Her doctoral essay, Interwoven Traditions: Cross-Influence in 19th-Century Western European Double Bass Pedagogy, explores the interconnected development of nineteenth-century European bass traditions.

An active educator and arranger, Victoria has taught through university programs, summer festivals, and private instruction, with previous teaching fellowships at Lutheran Summer Music and the University of Colorado Summer Music Academy. Her arrangements and educational materials are published through Double Bass HQ.
