Bio

Victoria Bakewell is a double bassist, educator, researcher, and arranger whose work explores the history, pedagogy, and evolving role of the double bass. She currently serves on the bass faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and is passionate about connecting historical traditions with contemporary performance, teaching, and repertoire.

Originally from Fargo, North Dakota, Victoria holds degrees from Concordia College, the University of Colorado Boulder, and the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, where she earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree under the mentorship of Dr. Brian Powell. As a performer, she has appeared with ensembles and festivals throughout the United States and abroad, including Festival Napa Valley, MahlerFest, the Frost Symphony Orchestra, and the Frost Wind Ensemble.

Her research on double bass pedagogy earned first place in the 2024 International Society of Bassists Research Competition (Student Division) and was published in the Online Journal of Bass Research. Her arrangements and educational materials are published through Double Bass HQ. As an educator, she has taught through university programs, summer festivals, and private instruction.
